Bone Grafting
You may have experienced a loss of bone density if you have been missing teeth for a period of time or suffered advanced periodontal disease. Excessive bone loss can make it difficult to plan for successful tooth replacement. Facial structure also changes with bone loss, leaving patients looking older.
The bone grafting procedure involves collecting bone from another part of your body, usually the chin, and grafting it to the affected area. In some cases, Dr. Breiterman may use bone from a bone bank or a non-human source. The donor bone tissue is held in place with titanium screws and will fuse to the existing bone as it heals.
Once the bone graft has fully healed, Dr. Breiterman can proceed with the next step in your treatment plan.
